Anime & Audition Intensive
Ripley Grier, NYC
Thursday, August 8th, 2019, 5:30pm – 10:00pm
Price: $400.00 ($350 for qualifying returning students)
Flaps, OM React, CM Smile, CT Growl, Beeps, Time Codes, Auditioning, Styles…What does it all mean?! Come learn about all that and more at this Anime Intensive! You will be lead through anime copy by not one but two directors – Tyler Walker (Funimation Director best known for his work on Fairy Tail, Baccano and 91 Days) and Brittany Lauda (Co-Owner of Kocha Sound, Director at Funimation/Media Blasters). Matt Shipman will also be there acting as engineer. The class will be split in to three sections: Q&A, Auditions & Anime Monologues. Copy and Scenes will be decided by class registration, selected to best fit the students. Some say the best way to learn is by doing, so come, play and explore with us! Ask questions, learn and absorb from your peers! THERE WILL BE NO ADR AT THIS WORKSHOP. We will instead be working on monologues from anime, which allows for more nuanced critiques of performance.
What to expect…
-Get to know your instructors & their experience during a Q&A Segment while enjoying light snacks
– Learn about anime technique, including ADR shorthands
-Hear what anime directors look for in their actors & what the “style” of different shows are
-Master reaction sounds
-Experience what an audition is like
-Study proper audition technique and how to dissect audition copy
-Get time on mic in front of TWO directors
-Practice your cold read techniques and ability to take direction
-Perform monologues and emotional scenes from anime
Brittany and Matt are co-owners of Kocha Sound LLC and the team behind the anime dubs like World War Blue, Juden-Chan, the first Yaoi dub Ai no Kusabi, as well as games like Minotaur and YIIK: A Postmodern RPG; see more Kocha Sound projects here! Tyler Walker is a veteran director at Funimation with plenty of experience under his belt to share. You can see his full resume here.
While this class is accessible to many levels, we recommend some level of acting training. Students who are more experienced will be challenged with characters outside their comfort zone and practice with more specific direction, where newer actors will learn basic technique and how to take direction. If you have any questions or would like to discuss other payment methods (venmo, check, payment plans) please contact Brittany at Brittany@Kochasound.com. To avoid paypal fees, please pay via Venmo.
